About Levantine Sunlight

Plant Glycerin

Double glycerine phases
Glycerin is a powerful humectant that delivers hydration to skin and hair.  It's used in countless cosmetic formulations to enhance skin softness and glow.  Levantine Sunshine Liquid Aleppo Soap takes it one step further: we add the glycerin during both the hot processing and the cooling-down period, creating a superior level of hydration you can tangibly feel in the skin.  That's why Levantine Sunlight supports your skin's health even when you leave it on -- it's protecting and repairing your dermal barrier just like lotion would.  And on hair, it draws in just enough water to allow your hair's natural texture to do its thing while remaining lightweight and hydrated.

a bushel of olive. Also known as Olea Europaea

Olive oil pomace
Olive pomace is extracted directly from the olive pulp and skin after the first press, meaning it's as pure and straight from the olive as it gets -- no chemical solvents, no additives or byproducts that would interfere with the quality of the soap.  Its purity retains the natural and unsaponified natural oleic, linoleic, and ricinoleic acids that are native to sebum, so your skin and hair recognize it like its own native oils

Avocado

Avocado oil
In our formula, avocado oil functions as a structural conditioner that supports both skin and hair at the tissue level.  Its naturally small triglycerides and high oleic content allow it to penetrate just beneath the surface of the epidermis and hair cuticle, which creates flexibility and slip without silicones or other synthetics.  On the skin, it stabilizes the moisture of the other oils, reduces friction, and buffers against the alkalinity of the soap, so your skin feels calm and your hair dries down supple rather than feeling tight or brittle.  The result is conditioning that's both functional and beautiful for your hair: elastic instead of greasy; defined instead of gunky; and comfort that improves with regular use rather than creating dependency.

Laurel Berry

Laurel Berry Oil
Laurel berry oil is the quiet, unassuming, unsung hero of our formula.  If it doesn't have Laurel Berry, it isn't Aleppo Soap.  This humble but powerful oil draws directly on the ancient heritage of the Levant, when the hard soap was invented 2,000 years ago in Aleppo, Syria.  As the other oils in our soap provide deep moisture and slip, laurel berry oil helps tame the microbial balance in your skin, protecting it from irritation, breakouts, and itchiness through its natural antimicrobial and antifungal activity.  While we can't technically  make any medical claims about this (yet), we've already heard anecdotes about how our soap has relieved skin inflammation, including on the scalp which -- you guessed it -- improved hair health.  So while the avocado, coconut, olive, and castor oils are busy moisturizing and reviving your skin, the laurel berry works to make sure your skin stays soothed from unwanted microbial activity.

Castor Beans

Castor Oil
Castor oil is another one of our oleic powerhouses -- specifically, its rich, naturally-occurring ricinoleic oils.  Castor oil contributes to the dense, creamy lather of our soap, creating a cushion effect when cleansing skin and hair.  This silicone-free slip allows impurities to lift away without abrasion, so that strands can glide past each other and settle into natural alignment.  It also adds tensile support at the bend point of curls, which is what makes it so effective for Black and curly hair. The result is a wash that feels gentle yet thorough -- your skin is cleansed without feeling exposed, and your curls emerge defined rather than disturbed.  There's no heaviness or residue here -- it just keeps the cleansing process smoother, more protective, and more noticeably refined.

Coconut

Fractionated coconut oil
If you're a skin or haircare nerd (like us), you'll recognize this ingredient.  Fractionated coconut oil brings the precision; it helps the soap remove heavier components that might feel waxy or clogging on hair and skin.  It helps the soap stay clear in the bottle while boosting rinseability, so that your hair and skin wash off clean without any soapy residue.  The result is a clean that feels fresh rather than stripped -- hair stays buoyant and defined, and skin feels clear, comfortable, and ready to retain moisture instead of immediately losing it.

All together:
The combination of the rich oils, double glycerin, and gentle pH of Levantine Sunlight, allow this soap to behave like few other soaps on the market: something that outperforms many conventional shampoos and conditioners, and something you can leave on your skin without rinsing off, resulting in skin that's nourished instead of dry and irritated.
We're as conscious about what we leave out of Levantine Sunlight as what we put in it.  It's free of potentially drying & irritating sulfates, detergents, pthalates, and parabens; it's also free of silicones, polyquats and other acrylics that mimic the feeling of softness while creating buildup on your hair and scalp over time.  Natural, high-quality, effective oils = your happiest skin and hair.
